First off, I want to give a shout out to all the moms I know - Happy Mother's Day! My mom will be here in FOUR DAYS holycrapsoexcited!
Lately there is just not enough time in the day, so this whole blogging thing has gotten away from me. I am (im)patiently waiting for the states of Maine and North Carolina to get their asses in gear so I can transfer my cosmetology license, and then start looking for a part time stylist job - I really miss it, so I'm pretty excited about the whole thing.
So I have to hand it to Pinterest - that website makes me feel damn crafty. I highly recommend if you need a new idea for a girl's night, have a Pinterest party. (I actually discussed Pinterest with my boss the other day, which is hilarious in itself, but I described our parties as a "modern day book club" - also, hosting girls night is the best. Because then you can drink as much as you want and you don't have to drive home. WINNING!)
Last night we had another PP - I had seen some tutorials about DIY glitter heels, and since I missed the window on finding any cute glitter heels to wear in the wedding, I decided to give it a shot.
I recommend buying a cheap plastic shower liner to do this on - it will keep the mess contained and then you can just dump it outside. You will also need:
Fabric glue (dries clear & flexible)
Sandpaper
Glitter colors of choice (those huge things are from Michael's and I think were $6/each)
Makeup sponges or a paintbrush
Stuff your shoes with plastic bags - it will keep the glitter from infiltrating the inside of your shoe.
Then take the sandpaper and rough up the surface a little bit - if you don't plan on covering the entire shoe, be careful where it's just paint and not fabric, because it will scratch the paint off. I scuffed the red part, but I ended up covering it anyway.
Wipe a thin layer of glue on the surface of the shoe using your makeup sponge, and then shake some glitter over it. This glue looked a little blue after using the black glitter, so I was mildly concerned that it was going to show through, but it does in fact dry clear.
Continue this step all the way around - you might choose to do the underside as well, but I left mine the way it was (mostly because I had nowhere to hold it). Let this layer of glue dry, preferably overnight. Once dry, add a layer of just glue over the top of the glitter to keep it from flaking. I was going to use that spray Mod Podge I had leftover from the light switch plates, but I was afraid it was going to crack and the glitter would fall off. So since this glue dries flexible, I figured that was the safest way to go about it.
Voila! Of course the camera does not do these justice at all with the glitter, but these are freakin' bedazzled within an inch of their life. Only thing I wish was that the inside of the toe wasn't red, but I was tired of looking for shoes, and I had a coupon for Marshall's so I got these on the cheap. Plus, nobody will be looking at my toes in these, that's for sure!
- So I've started reading 50 Shades of Grey. Now, everyone I know who has read it has raved about it. However. I have also heard that it is horrible writing, a horrible story line, and just too graphic and disgusting. I have barely started it, so I will report back on what I think. I also got Beautiful Disaster by Laura Spinella in the fab package from Ashley - I highly recommend that book. I read it in 3 days.
- In dating news, a girl at work set me up with one of her daughter's friends. Super nice guy, attractive, good job, owns a house, and we had a great time. Have I heard from him since last weekend? No. So I took the initiative, sent a "hey! want to get together this week?" text and got a less than excited response about it. Fine. Next.
- Found my first gray hair the other day. WHAT. Slight moment of panic, then I remembered I color my hair anyway, so who cares. (Well, I keep trying to remind myself of that. Some days it helps. Some days not.)
- I have the weirdest dog ever. Case in point:
That is her nose, sticking out from inside my hoodie. She thought it was a blanket, wanted to get underneath, and sat inside my shirt for a good 10 minutes. Dog, you are 45 pounds.
17 days until Maine!!!
VERY impressive!
